El 28 de enero, el Servicio de Investigación de la Guardia Costera recibió un aviso sobre un barco pesquero que estaba remolcando una barcaza de uso doméstico frente a la costa de Puerto Rico. Testigos presenciales reportaron que varios paquetes fueron arrojados al agua y que un hombre se lanzó al mar.
La Unidad Marina de San Juan movilizó la tripulación de un Buque Interceptor Costero para colaborar con la Guardia Costera en las labores de búsqueda. A las 8 de la mañana, las autoridades lograron rescatar al individuo del océano. El hombre, que fue identificado como un ciudadano dominicano sin estatus legal para residir o permanecer en Estados Unidos, fue detenido.
Los agentes de Interdicción Marítima recuperaron del agua y de la barcaza fardos que se presume contenían cocaína, con un peso total de aproximadamente 350 kilos. Tanto la sustancia confiscada como el detenido fueron trasladados a San Juan para iniciar su procesamiento.
La Guardia Costera de EE. UU. junto con la unidad de infantería de marina de la CBP transfirieron la custodia del individuo y de los narcóticos intervenidos al Grupo de Trabajo de Seguridad Nacional en San Juan. Este grupo de trabajo llevará a cabo una investigación más exhaustiva y se encargará de todos los procedimientos legales pertinentes.

On January 28, the Coast Guard Investigative Service received a tip about a fishing boat towing a domestic-use barge off the coast of Puerto Rico. Eyewitnesses reported that several packages were thrown into the water and that a man jumped into the sea.
The San Juan Marine Unit mobilized the crew of a Coastal Interceptor Vessel to assist the Coast Guard in the search efforts. At 8 a.m., authorities managed to rescue the individual from the ocean. The man, who was identified as a Dominican citizen without legal status to reside or remain in the United States, was arrested.
Maritime Interdiction agents recovered from the water and the barge bales that are presumed to contain cocaine, with a total weight of approximately 350 kilos. Both the confiscated substance and the detainee were transported to San Juan to initiate processing.
The U.S. Coast Guard, along with the CBP Marine Corps unit, transferred custody of the individual and the seized narcotics to the National Security Task Force in San Juan. This task force will conduct a more thorough investigation and handle all relevant legal proceedings.
